A tour through history of Donaucity...

Come along to a short tour through history of Donau City, from floodplain forrest
to glamorous Donaucity, which sets new accents to Vienna's silhouette.

Our compilation should be more than a pure listing of facts.
The area of Donau City was floodplain forrest till 1875, today's "Alte Donau" was
main arm of Danube river. We will report about Danube river training, "Schießstätte
Kagran" (= shooting range Kagran), which was located at today's Sportcenter till 1938,
we will show aerial photographs from 1938 to 2008, which document the rapid change.
(for example an aerophoto from 1956 - copyright: Amt für Eich- und Vermessung)

1956_ausschnitt_2

You will read about a "Brettldorf" (= village of "poor" wooden huts).
You will see how a floodplain forrest and later a dumpsite develops into the public
recreation area of "Donaupark". The historic evolution of Sportcenter Donaucity is similar
to Donaupark, but Donaupark's history is much better documented.

About the construction works of UNO City,
about the change from an allotment site to a modern housing area with significent
high-risers and, of course, details about Sportcenter Donaucity's development, you will
read at Streifzug durch die Geschichte der Donaucity (= tour through Donaucity's history).
